ABOUT US

NEWS UPDATE FOR IBERBOOK-SANCHEZ CUESTA CUSTOMERS

IBERBOOK-SANCHEZ CUESTA is one of the leading Spanish suppliers of bibliographical material for institutional and scientific libraries. We have been providing Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American books and non-print materials such as DVDs and CD-ROMs to specific libraries all over the world for many decades. Our extensive list of clients includes prestigious institutions like the University Libraries of Yale, Harvard, Princeton (U.S.A.), Cambridge , ( Great Britain ), the Sorbonne (France), Leiden (Netherlands) and Heidelberg ( Germany ). We also send shipments to  East Asia , where our books and materials are ordered by institutions such as Tamkang University and Wenzao College ( Taiwan ), Sophia University ( Tokyo , Japan ) and the National Library of Australia.

The most important reasons behind the successful cooperation that we have built on with our clients are our long experience (since 1924) in the market of Spanish and Portuguese books and our highly qualified staff, whose members are trained to meet the specific needs of the various libraries.

Our prime service is the approval plan. Over the course of many years and in cooperation with highly specialised libraries, we have developed the necessary tools in order to offer the best selection of bibliographic material for any defined profile. IBERBOOK-SANCHEZ CUESTA has earned itself an outstanding reputation in the Anglo-Saxon and European world for the quality of its blanket orders.

One very important factor in this issue is that our offices are located in Madrid and Lisbon . Spain and Portugal are governed by centralised administrations and all government departments and most public organisations have their headquarters in the capital. This provides us with almost unlimited access to any kind of restricted publications or grey literature. Moreover, Spain is gradually becoming an increasingly multilingual country and the fact of keeping our headquarters in the centre of the country guarantees that the widest possible range of publications in all of Spain's languages (Spanish, Catalan, Galician and Basque) and Portuguese is included in the selection process.

Some of the selection tools we offer are the publishers' new title lists, as well as our own periodical and customised bibliographic information in the form of printed catalogues, printed slips, or new title announcements by e-mail.

APPROVAL PLANS & BIBLIOGRAPHIC SLIPS
All Subject Areas Included

The experience we have acquired in managing Approval Plans for some of the most respected Libraries worldwide has consolidated our position as specialists in this field.

The service we provide, complies with the detailed and precise instructions given to us in advance by librarians. Such instructions may include: an annual budget, a price limit for individual titles, a list of Authors or Publishers, separate administrative and delivery addresses and other details. To avoid duplication, a list of Standing Orders handled by other suppliers is required.

Our computerised records enable us to exercise careful control and avoid any duplication of orders between new Approval Plan Titles and specific Monographic or Standing Orders.

To provide comprehensive updating information on publications within the subject areas covered by the Approval Plan profile, bibliographic information is provided for new titles which were added to our database, but were outside of the selection criteria for the library. This information can be supplied via e-mail or printed slips. The librarians specify if they want to receive only titles not supplied as books or if the data should include all titles, with the items shipped as books identified as "selected".

MARC-formatted bibliographic records are available for all titles served to a library in the framework of an Approval Plan. Supplied as an attachment to e-mail, the MARC-formatted records for Approval Plan titles enable the loading of titles into the library system prior to the receipt of the approval shipment. This facilitates fast processing of shipments and provides library user access to approval titles.

Most of our New Titles can be accessed in the OCLC and RLG/RLIN on-line catalogues, to which we regularly contribute.

At regular intervals, Statements of Account are provided detailing the expenditure of the budget allocation for the Approval Plan.

The Approval Plan profile is highly customized to ensure effective collection development for each individual library. We are, of course, very happy to discuss with customers the precise arrangements they may require for Approval Plans.

MONOGRAPHIC ORDERS

We can supply any print publication from Spain and Portugal

With every title supplied, we attach a slip giving the bibliographical details, the customer order reference and any other relevant information.

In the case of no publisher response to our order, we send up to a maximum of three further requests to the publishers. Customers are regularly sent detailed status reports on books which are reprinting, out-of-print or not yet published.

Latin America

We also offer a significant selection of books published in Latin America from our stock. When these items are out of stock in our storage, we inform customers. Upon specific request we may special order an individual publication, but there is considerable cost involved with special orders from this part of the world and the length of time it takes to obtain supply can be prohibitive. The supply from our stock is automatic and much more economical. The decision regarding special orders has to be made on a case-by-case basis.

Multi-Media from Spain

We supply all types of media (Videos, CD-ROMs, DVD,).

Out-of-Print Titles Search from Spain

If a title is out of print, we can search for it in the second-hand market.

STANDING ORDERS FROM SPAIN AND PORTUGAL

We supply new titles in Series as soon as they are published and we keep a careful check on Standing Orders so that any missing title may be requested from suppliers as quickly as possible.

We also provide our customers with reports detailing all information needed to ensure strict control: order number, fund number, list of Standing Order titles, latest issues supplied together with dates and corresponding invoice numbers. We guarantee efficient control to prevent duplication between Standing Orders and any other orders (Monographs, Approval Plans).

To help our customers update and complete their library collections, we are happy to provide them with a list of those Series of significant interest and commanding the greatest respect.

PERIODICALS FROM SPAIN

Subscriptions to Journals and Periodicals are normally for one year and will be automatically renewed, unless you send us other instructions. We can prepare price quotations, inform you about the availability of back numbers and, of course, supply individual copies of particular titles or issues.

ORDER STATUS

To ensure that you receive effective follow up and full information, we regularly e-mail:

* Current status of your different orders (Monographs, Series, Approval Plans, Journals, Subscriptions)
